This guide for was developed while helping a contractor-friend catch up on his bookkeeping. He had not filed a tax return for several years and was totally lost on how to start. He had tried to hire a bookkeeper but had trouble finding a reliable, consistent one.

That's when I stepped in to help him by using QuickBooks. My initial effort was to help him learn QuickBooks - the results were less than I had hoped. Like many contractors, he thought, and still thinks, bookkeeping is someone else's job. I hope he will change his mind and learn how easy it really is if done consistently. It was through this effort I was able to hone my skills to a point that I was able to complete this guide.
